Laplap (or Bunia) and Kava Food Experience

This full day activity offers a traditional Vanuatu food experience, hosted within a traditional village on Ambrym Island. You’ll get to join the locals and prepare either Laplap (Laplap is the national dish of Vanuatu and is prepared by grating breadfruit, bananas, taro or yam roots into a vegetable paste) or Bunia (Bunya is a traditional Ni-Vanuatu dish that is made using root vegetables, meat and coconut milk. It is wrapped in banana leaves and then cooked in an underground oven with hot stones).

In this experience:

  • Your day will kick off with chicken feeding, before a wonderful breakfast of locally made bread and fruit.
  • You’ll then tour the gardens and various local vegetables and plants that are grown on the island.
  • Following lunch, the Laplap or Bunia preparation begins. You’ll accompany the locals in preparing one of these two dishes.
  • Next, you’ll enjoy a tea break before the kava preparation and drinking.
  • Dinner will be served, followed by fun activities into the night.
